Service will be held on Friday, December 21, at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
The Clergy will be Pastor Josh Doughty
Interment will be at Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Gladys (Stimpert) Johnson was born on December 20, 1923 to Charles and Senea (Woltzen) Stimpert in North Star Township (Springfield), MN. Later, she moved to Sleepy Eye where she attended Sleepy Eye Public School and graduated in 1942. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. Gladys married Arno (Flash) Johnson, her high school sweetheart, on September 28, 1942. They shared a lifetime of love for nearly 69 years. After they were married, Gladys and Arno lived in California where he was stationed serving in the US Navy. She worked as a Secretary and had many fond memories of her time spent there. When they moved back to Sleepy Eye, she began working as a waitress at the Orchid Inn in Sleepy Eye. Gladys could have easily been inducted into the Waitressing Hall of Fame for her 50 plus years of service. Gladys was an exceptional homemaker spending countless hours in the kitchen cooking up meals and baking many delicious goodies; specifically, her apple pies. She enjoyed golfing and was able to spend many rounds on the course with her sweetheart and good friends. She also liked to crochet.
Gladys is survived by her sons, Van Johnson of Fairmont and Gary (Joanne) Johnson of Sleepy Eye. grandchildren, Erin (Chad) Bertrand of Sleepy Eye and Michael (Amanda) Johnson of Andover. She had 5 great-grandchildren; Chelsey and Justin Bertrand and Chelsey, Ethan and Grant Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Senea and Charles; her husband Flash; her five brothers, Don, Chet, Arnie, Ray, Charles; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Bertrand.
