DEATH OF MRS. CATHERINE McGILLIVARY - One by one the finger of Death beckons to our sturdy pioneer settlers and the call is answered. There passed away on February 23, at her home south of Manitou, Catherine McCrea, beloved wife of Alexander McGillivary.
The funeral was held on Thursday, Feb. 27th, services being conducted by the Rev. G. F. Dyker, of the United Church. Interment was made at the Manitou cemetery.
The pallbearers were Duncan Hamilton, Norris Hamilton, Charles D. McLean, Hugh McLean, Gordon Maloney and Rupert Foley. She is survived by her husband, three sons, John and George, at home; William, of Rose Valley, Sask.; and two daughters, Mrs. M. Helps and Mrs. George Headland, both of Mänitou. Mrs. Hugh McLean is an adopted daughter. Twenty three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and four sisters also survive. The sisters are, Mrs. Robertson and Mrs. Kennedy of Edmonton, Alta., Mrs. McKenzie of Leduc, Alta., and Mrs. Robinson of Maxville, Ont.
The late Mrs. McGillivary was born in Maxville, Ont., on May 17th, 1857. She came to this country with her husband as one of the few pioneers in the late 70's, and lived and died on the original land which Mr. McGillivary homesteaded. In those early strenuous days of pioneering, Mr McGillivary was active In her sympathy and work in the community, ever ready to give a helping hand to those in sickness and distress; and many a one still recalls the good deeds which she rendered to all who sought her motherly care and attention.
