MURPHYSBORO - Betty R. Graeff, 89, died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in Carbondale.

Betty was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Ava, a daughter to the late George W. and Burch C. (Easterly) Stout.

Betty was united in marriage to Freeman Eugene "Gene" Graeff on Jan. 17, 1943, in Jackson, Mo. Gene survives of Murphysboro. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and was very active in the life of First Baptist Church. After she graduated High School, she went to work for the Montgomery Ward company at their department store in Murphysboro. She later worked as a secretary for Jackson County Mental Health agency in Murphysboro and had also worked with her husband, Gene, at Bill and Gene's Tom-Boy Grocery store on North 14th Street in Murphysboro.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in First Baptist Church in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Shaker Samuel officiating. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Graeff of Murphysboro; one daughter and son-in-law; Mary Jeanne and Max Mason of Liberty, Mo.; two sons and daughters-in-law; Stan and Jo Graeff of Murphysboro and Philip and Micki Graeff of Saint Peters, Mo.; one twin sister, Mary Boudet of Murphysboro; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Long of Bethesda, Md., Stuart (Patty) Ludlow of Kansas City, Mo., Megan R. Graeff of Chicago, Joey A. Graeff of St. Louis, Timothy (Jennifer) Graeff of Colorado Springs, Colo., Alison Graeff of St. Louis, and Christopher Graeff of Saint Peters, Mo.; and seven great-grandchildren, Audrey and Ingrid Long, Madeline Ludlow, Braden, Kaelyn, Devon and Jacen Graeff.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Pittman; and four brothers, John, Harold, Gordon and Glenn Stout.
