NOTE: In some historical documents his name is listed as "Jacob Baumann/Bowman Junior", with two separate spellings of the German surname. In French, this surname is spelled "Beaumond".

Life and Times--


(1) NOTE A--(This Family Research provided by James Carroll Fox. Her daughter, Christine/Christina Bowman Scott, was married to Enos Scott ("Enos1"); and the "Enos1" notation is placed here to correspond to the SCOTT FAMILY RESEARCH and publications wonderfully done by James Carroll Fox. James Carroll Fox is a direct descendant of Enos Scott ("Enos1") and Christine/Christina Bowman Scott via their son Adam Bowman Scott.

Jacob Bowman joined British Army in the French War, and was granted 1500 acres on great bend of Susquehannah River and the area became known as Bowman's Creek. His farm was pillaged, He was surprised at night, while his wife was sick, by a party of rebels, and with his eldest son, a lad of sixteen years of age was taken prisoner; his house pillaged of every article except the bed on which his sick wife lay, and that they stripped of all but one blanket. Half an hour after He was marched out, his youngest child was born. This was in November. There Elizabeth was, with an infant babe (Christine Bowman) and six children, at the commencement of winter, without any provisions, and only one blanket in the house.and Jacob was cruelly imprisoned about 4 years during the Revolution War. He was in Niagara with family by 1783 and received a 200 acre land grant in 1791 from the British Government in Stamford, Ontario, Canada.


(3) NOTE C--(This info provided by Dorothy Hazel Tarr, a direct descendant of Elizabeth and Jacob Bowman through their daughter Christine/Christina Bowman Scott and her husband Enos ("Enos1") Scott. Dorothy Hazel Tarr is a DNA Cousin to James Carroll Fox.)


Jacob was active in the Revolutionary War and actively served with the United Empire Loyalists movement. He was a member of Lt Col John Butler "Butler's Rangers".
