He served in the Civil War with Company K, 13th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. He enlisted on October 21st, 1861, and was discharged November 24th, 1865 when the regiment mustered out of service at San Antonio, TX.

The photo was taken late December or early January 1861 before Co. K left Racine. We can tell that because John Benjamin and Horace didn't enlist until 9 December. John Albert was probably visiting for the holidays. He later joined the 33rd Wisconsin.
