She was born May 30, 1935, in Carbart, Ala., the daughter of James Riley and Velma Pearl (Elliot) Ables. On March 19, 1960, she married Joseph Edward Leatherman, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member and employee of St. John Lutheran Church. She helped with Sunday school, participated in the Quilting Club and was a member of Craft-What Knot Club.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Edward Leatherman, Defiance, a son; Gerald Leatherman, San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Tina L. Proxmire, Angola, Ind.; two grandchildren, Amanda Athy and Keith Proxmire Jr.; and a sister, Stella Jarnigan, Cherokee, Ala.
Preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers and six sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Entombment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Defiance County. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
