Television Producer, Writer, Director, Voice Actor. Born Gerald Alexander Abrahams, he gained fame for writing and directing futuristic television programs, where the characters were marionette puppets modified by a process called "Supermarionation," which merely combined the words "super," "marionette" and "animation." From 1957 to 1958, he produced the children's television series "The Adventures of Twizzle," in 1962 "Supercar," and in 1965, he made his most famous and successful production: "Thunderbirds," which was a children's sci-fi series, from 1965 to 1970, which was later regarded as a cult classic. The following success of productions with real actors, in the seventies, with its ancient and very successful partnership with ITC (Incorporated Television Company), of Lew Grade was the series "Space: 1999" starring Martin Landau and Barbara Bain. He was also the creator of other series like "Joe 90," "Stingray," "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons," "UFO," and "Fireball XL5." In 2001, he was appointed an MBE knighthood. His Thunderbirds series was adapted into a live-action feature film in 2004 and inspired South Park creators Trey Parker & Matt Stone to create the satirical puppet comedy film, "Team America: World Police" (2004). During his last years, he and his son Jamie, had become active supporters of Britain's Alzheimer's Society, dedicated to spreading the reality of the disease he suffered.
