David arrived in Vietnam 21 December 1967 and was assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
When the battalion was participating in Operation Mameluke Thrust Delta Company was near Dai Kuong and 4 kilometers northwest of An Hoa Airfield when the Marines were engaged by hostile forces.
David died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile automatic rifle fire.
Survived by his parents, Roy and Norma Jean Andrews of Rural Route #3, Box 299, Wilmington, Ohio.
