Portland businessman John W. Davis of 6679 SE Thorburn Ave., president of Ramsey Signs, died Wednesday in Logan Utah. He was 72.

Mr. Davis also was president of R.K.D. Co., a property investment firm with extensive holdings in the Portland metropolitan area.

Mr. Davis was born Feb. 19, 1899, in Logan, Utah, coming to Portland in 1921, A pioneer in the electrical advertising, he was an organizer of Ramsey Sings; the original Sign Contractors Association; a vice president of Pacific Advertising Association and a veteran of World War I.

He was a member of Portland Post No. 1 American Legion, Portland Lodge No. 142 BPOE, Disabled American Veterans, Portland Chamber of Commerce, the Multnomah Athletic Club and Columbia Edgewater Country Club.

Survivors are his wife June, son Conrad, stepson John F. Rinehart, all of Portland; sister Mary Adilene Bussey of Woodburn; brothers, William R. of Milwaukie and Owen L. of Escondido, Calif.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral will be noon Monday in Caldwell's Funeral Service with private entombment in Riverview Cemetery.
