Charles Augustus Parker was born January 27, 1887, near Sundance, WY, the son of Charles Ambrose and Lady Emma Young Parker. Charles, called Gus for short, lived most of his life in eastern Wyoming and western South Dakota. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Custer, where they lived on a ranch in Ruby Gulch, which they got by preemption.
He married Elizabeth Johnson, a nurse trainee, who was nursing in a Hot Springs, SD, hospital while he was hospitalized for lung trouble.
They had four children who were raised in Custer, SD, Charles William, Sr., Ambrose Augustus, Darlene Emma (Mrs. Wayne Lawe), and Cecelia Amelia (Mrs. Jack Bingham).
Gus ranched first at Seven-Mile, later at Four-Mile, and the last years he spent in South Dakota were on a farm south of Custer, back of the Pageant Hill.
