CO F 15th MI VOLUNTEER INFANTRY
Enlisted: December 16, 1861
Discharged: August 11, 1862
Son of Charles Levasseur Carmel and Theresa Campau of Frenchtown, Monroe, MI, Daniel served with Co. F 15th Regiment U.S. Volunteers during the Civil War. He never married and left behind two sisters, Mrs. Susan Plum of Detroit and Mrs. Clara Carmel Woodward Cady Lafayette of Saginaw, and one brother, Silas Carmel of Marshall.
Daniel's body is buried here in Saginaw and he died in 1900. He has another marker, at Shiloh, Tenn. It is not known who occupies this grave, but it isn't uncommon for a soldier to lend his clothing, or an identifying item, to another soldier or to leave behind items to be found later by another soldier. Perhaps the soldier in this grave was wearing or in possession of something of Daniel's:
