August Blecha, son of Joseph J. and Louise Blecha, was born February 7, 1882, near Humboldt, Richardson, County, Neb. His childhood and young manhood were spent around Humboldt working for his cousins.
In the year of 1907 he with his parents, two brothers and one sister came to Republic County, Kan. and settled in the vicinity of Munden.
In 1910 he started farming for himself. On August 12, 1913, he was united in marriage to Christina Horak. They lived on a farm northwest of Munden until 1938 when they moved to a farm three miles south of Chester, where he resided the rest of his life.
To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters, one daughter dying in infancy and one preceded him in death in 1947.
One of his chief interests in life was the Farmers and Citizens Telephone Company of Munden, where he was director and lineman for many years. August was a man of cheerful disposition; with a never complaining nature always ready to help a friend or neighbor.
He suffered a stroke on March 17 and was confined to his home until June 20 when complications set in. He was taken to St. Joseph hospital at Concordia, Kan., where he passed away July 5, at the age of 78 years, four months and 28 days.
He is preceded in death besides his daughters by five brothers, Charles, Joseph, Frank, Edward and George.
Those who survive him and mourn his passing are his wife Christina; two sons, Henry and Charles of Chester, Neb.; two daughter-in-laws, Mildred and Delores; six grandchildren, Beth and Judy Kuhlmann, North Platte, Neb., Janice, Donald, Kevin and Rita Blecha of Chester; two brothers, William and Adolph of Belleville; two sisters, Mrs. Michael Brzon, Republic and Mrs. J. H. Rundus, Belleville, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held July 7 at the St. Georges Catholic church in Munden with the Rev. John P Koerperich of Concordia in charge. Interment was made in the St. George cemetery south of Munden.
