Connie was the second of four children born to George Nathaniel and Mamie Ethel (Smith) Underwood. He married Nellie O'Connor in 1947 and they were the parents of one daughter: Juanita Christine.

Connie Roosevelt Underwood, 67, of 1015 Cranbrook St., died Tuesday at Veterans Hospital in Salisbury.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Funeral Home. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
He was a native of Guilford County, a World War II veteran, a retired machinist with Terra-Cotta Inc. and a Baptist.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Underwood; daughter, Mrs. Juanita Knight of Greensboro; sister, Mrs. Belle Tesh of Greensboro; brother, George Underwood of Climax; four grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. today, other times at the home of the sister, 4107 Hewitt St.
