Emma Hoffman (Stallman) was born in Breda, Iowa in 1890. She died in Winona, MN in 1986 where she had been staying with daughter Celesta. Emma moved with her parents from Breda to a farm in Iona, MN in 1902. She helped on the farm and worked for a while at a small hotel in Iona. In 1909 she married Gus (August) Hoffman. Together they operated Gus’ restaurant in Iona. In 1912 they purchased a grocery store in Fairmont MN. Then in 1918 they moved with their family to a farm in Grantsburg. Emma worked very hard raising their eight children, helping with farm work and gardening. She did a lot of canning. Some summers she canned over 100 quarts of wild blueberries which she and family members picked. She enjoyed being a member of a Homemakers Club. After retiring she and Gus spent many winters in South Texas. Emma was good at crafts which she enjoyed in retirement. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grantsburg.
