James Newton, 92, of Stafford County passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Greenfield in Fredericksburg. Arrangements are incomplete at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

James Newton

James Newton, 92, of Stafford County passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Greenfield in Fredericksburg.

Mr. Newton was a member of New Hope Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his daughters, Kathy N. Pitts (Richard) of Fredericksburg and Dean N. Smith (Gerry) of Annapolis, Md.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucy Newton; his wife, Gola Newton; and granddaughter Jami Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va., 22407.
