LuJean Viehweg
1928 - 2010
LOGAN - LuJean Viehweg of Logan, age 82, died Aug. 16, 2010, after a long, courageous battle with multiple health issues.

She was born May 27, 1928, in Dayton, Idaho. She was the fourth of seven children to Veril David and Rosella Hannah Smart.

She met Joseph Moser Viehweg and after a fun courtship they were married and sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on Dec. 18, 1948.
[8/31/2013 note: headstone inscription indicates marriage on Dec. 18, 1947.]

She grew up on a farm in Dayton where she learned the value of hard work, which she passed on to her posterity.

During her married life she moved six times with her family, with a final move in 2006 to Logan. Her most memorable experience was raising her family in Preston, Idaho.

LuJean was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various church positions during her life, including Primary, Sunday school, Cub Scouts and YWMIA.

She loved to work with and teach the youth. Serving many years as a leader in the 4-H program, she loved being able to pass on the numerous skills she had been taught. Besides her most important role as mother and homemaker, she was a card-punch operator, secretary, baker's assistant and dispatcher for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

LuJean's life, her example and her loving way will eternally bless the lives of her family. We thank her for all she has done for us over the years and for her never-failing example of goodness and integrity. Indeed she was a heavenly queen and mother of our home.

In her last hours of life, she was still expressing appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Steven Salisbury and his wonderful staff, the exceptional staff and people whom she had association with at Williamburg Retirement Center, and the doctors and nurses who helped make her final hours more comfortable and peaceful. Her family will be forever thankful for the comfort and tender care that was given to her.

She is survived by brothers, Demar (Edith), Boyd (Phyllis) and David (Mary Ann); sister, Verla (Rey Hyer); her children, Joseph B. Viehweg (Pennie) of Sandy, Utah, LuAnn (Lynn Cole) of Perry, Utah, Cordell Viehweg (Jeanine) of Chesapeake, Va., Colleen (Terry Gnehm) of Logan, Utah, Kevin Viehweg (Karen) of Garden City, Idaho, and Diana (Layne Benson) of LaVerkin, Utah; 19 wonderful grandchildren; and 33 fantastic great-grandchildren, who were all the love of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe"; parents, Veril and Rosella; sister, Glenda Bodily; brother, Marlow; and son-in-law, Terry Gnehm.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, with a viewing from 10 to 11:30 a.m., prior to the funeral. She will be buried at the side of her husband of 48 years in the Clifton, Idaho, Cemetery.
