Delores Jane Kohnke, daughter of Emil and Clara (Krienke) Krszjzaniek, was born July 4, 1924 in Clear Creek Township, Eau Claire County. She was baptized on Aug. 3, 1924 and confirmed on June 26, 1938, both at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Foster by the Rev. Herbert Bergdorf. In 1942 she graduated from Lincoln Hills High School in Osseo. She was united in marriage to Gene Warren Kohnke on Sept. 2, 1945 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. Ronald Goetsch. The couple farmed in Otter Creek and Bridge Creek Townships, moving into Augusta in 1966. Delores had been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where she was a member of the ladies society and with her husband had served as the church sustodians for several years. She was a quilter extraordinaire, she loved quilting for herself, family and friends, and through her church also quilted for the Lutheran World Relief. She had been employed for Bush Brothers Canning Company of Augusta. She loved to travel, tend to her gardens, work crossword puzzles and most importantly was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend. Since 2008 she had been a resident of the nursing home in Osseo.
Delores is survived by her daughter, Cheryl; and son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Foley of Racine; son-in-law, Dale Kirkham of Eau Claire; brother Laverne "Bud" and Betty Krszjzaniek of Osseo and their family; sister-in-law, Leona Kohnke of Chico, California, and her family.
Dee was preceded in death her parents, husband Gene on Aug. 7, 1998 and daughter, Kay Kirkham on Feb. 12, 2009.
Delores' family would like to thank the staff of the Osseo Nursing Home for the gentle and compassionate care shown to our beloved mother and sister.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church iin Foster, with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
