Mrs. Lura Roberts, daughter of the late R. R. Benningfield and Mrs. Francis Harden Benningfield, was born in Taylor County, November 15, 1877. She died at her home on the Roberts Road near Campbellsville, Monday, September 22 at 3 a.m., after a long illness. Mrs. Roberts professed faith in Christ early in life and was a member of the Campbellsville Methodist Church. She united in marriage to James R. Roberts, September 15, 1898, who preceded her in death March 31, 1955. To this union two sons and five daughters were born. One son died in infancy, August 1, 1913, and Fred preceded his mother in death September 21, 1946. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, in the Campbellsville Methodist Church with the Rev. K. A. Loy, Rev. J. A. McDowell, and Brother Paul Bohrer officiating. Pallbearers were Ray Clark, Jodie Mings, Lester Roberts, Charlie Benningfield, Wade Kearnes, and Bob Garvin. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Surviving here are Mrs. Letha Rivers at home, Mrs. Stanley Murrah and Mrs. Glenn Goodin all of Taylor County, Mrs. Ray Mings of Osaka, Japan and Mrs. Ray Reeves of Irvington, Kentucky. Also one sister, Miss Gertrude Benningfield of Lexington; two half-sisters and one half-brother, Mrs. Mont Burton of Elkhorn, Mrs. Elva Lawless of this city, and Brodus Benningfield of Elkhorn. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
