Born in Janapolė, Lithuania, and emigrated to Utica, New York, USA in August 1900, sailing from Europe to the USA with his mother Petronella (his dad Dominik came to the USA earlier to find employment and otherwise get established here). He became a USA citizen in August 1900 when he first arrived in the USA since his dad became a naturalized USA citizen in March 1900. Stephen enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1908 and honorably served a three-year term with the 143rd Regiment, Army Coastal Artillery Corps in various USA fort locations including Texas and Washington DC. He married Elizabeth Rosella "Bess" Moegling in 1915, she the daughter of Edward and Effie (Odell) Moegling. The happy couple has six children, three boys and three girls, all survived to adulthood and eventually found partners and married.
