Annie Forsyth McMurtrey was born to Thomas Forsyth and Phoebe Norwood. Her family came to Idaho when she was 2 years old and settled near Rexburg, Madison County, Idaho, where she received her early education and attended school at Ricks Academy. She cooked at a sawmill following her schooling.

Annie married Lawrence Jay McMurtrey on Oct 28, 1922, at Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, Idaho. Born to Annie and Lawrence are Larry, Gale, Lowell "Mickey", Lyda Grace (Pickett), Carley (Arave), and Roxie (Cooper). They farmed at Antelope and moved to Shelley, Bingham County, Idaho, in 1933. She did home health care during her early years at Shelley. Lawrence died in 1964.

Annie was an active member of the LDS Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Shelley Senior Citizens; and was a former member of the Toastmistress Club and the Shelley Study and Culture Club.

Annie died of a heart attack at her daughter's home (Carley Arave) in Logan, Utah. Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov 9, 1989, at noon at the Shelley Eighth Ward with Bishop Lorey Draper officiating. Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley handled funeral and burial services.
