Caroline "Katie" Awe of Hampshire Services for Caroline "Katie" Awe, 60, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church, 207 Grove Ave., Hampshire, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hampshire Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday, at the church. Born Dec. 9, 1944, in Elgin, the daughter of Wayne and Mellie (nee Davis) Maushak, she passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at home. Katie graduated from Hampshire High School in 1962, and Northern Illinois University in 1965. She began her career teaching English at Crown High School. She later worked at B. Dalton Bookseller in West Dundee and finished her career in the research department of the Second District Appellate Court in Elgin. Katie was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Hampshire, where she held many offices, and was organist and pianist for 20 years. She previously served on the board of the Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library and was active in several volunteer organizations, including the Welcome Wagon and Meals of Wheels. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and friend who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Survivors include her husband, Milton, whom she married on Sept. 12, 1964, in Hampshire; children, Elizabeth (Mark) Hafkey of Chicago and Michael (Jeanette) Awe of Marysville, Mich.; grandchildren, Mick Hafkey and Josie Awe; sister, Marjorie (Boyd) Reid of Bloomington, Minn.; stepbrother, Wayne (Sandra) Siegmann of Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews. Katie was preceded in death by her parents; and stepmother, Edna Maushak. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, P.A.D.S. of Elgin or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements were made by the Fredrick Funeral Home, Hampshire, (847) 683-2711.
