Montgomery, Adam—Enlisted 14 August 1862, 25 years old, private, in Co. B, 103rd Infantry. Description at enlistment: 6’ tall; dark hair; grey eyes; born Johnstown (Cambria) Pennsylvania. Mustered out 21 June 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.
Montgomery, Adam—1860 US Census, Deerfield, Fulton County, Illinois: Isaac Montgomery is 50 years old and born in Pennsylvania, as is his wife, Susan, 32 years old. Their children: Adam (22) born in Pennsylvania; Richard (21) born in Pennsylvania; Silas (19); George (17); William (14); Thankful (13); Amelia (9) and Margaret (5) born in Illinois.
Montgomery, Adam—Civil War Pension Application, National Archives, Washington, DC: His brothers were A.G. and Silas, and his father was Isaac. Married Ruth, who died in Ellisville (Fulton) Illinois on 2 April 1875. His second wife was Anna Thorn, married in Cuba (Fulton) Illinois on 6 January 1876. Her first husband, Joseph Thorn, died 18 February 1875.
Adam and Ruth’s children: Edwin born 12 September 1868/1869 and died 17 February 1895; Ira Milton born 12 December 1870/1871; and Laura Elon McLean born 30 December 1872 or January 1, 1873, and died 29 October 1894.
Adam Montgomery died in Abilene (Dickinson) Kansas of consumption on 10 September 1882, with burial at Bethel Cemetery. A.G. Saxton [?] became the guardian of the children in Clyde (Cloud) Kansas. His wife predeceased him, and the childrens’ grandfather, Isaac Montgomery, became their guardian. Ruth Montgomery is buried in West Foster Dickinson Cemetery, Fulton County, Illinois.
