[I added two photo exhibits that describe the true identity of Private Joseph Bidwell (~1755-1777) in the Company of Captain Samuel Welles during the Battle-Retreat of Long Island in 1776. One account is taken from the Glastonbury First Congregational Transcripts during the pastorate of Rev. John Eells (1759-1791), and the other is by Donald Jacobus in Hale, House and Related Families (1952; pages 468-469), who apparently had access to either the transcripts or the original records of Glastonbury First Congregational before the pre-1797 records were lost.

I needed to double-check his identity, because the Joseph-4 Bidwell (Nathaniel-3, Samuel-2, John-1) for this memorial (1726-1796); who married Ruth Kelsey, is one of my 5-great-grandfathers.

Had my Joseph-4 Bidwell been the Revolutionary War veteran, I had all the proof records I needed to file an application in his line with Sons of the American Revolution; however, this was not necessary in the end.
