Catherine is the daughter of North Eells and Catherine (Shekett) Demmans. She married Robert Ransome on Oct. 26, 1864. They lived in Michigan for a few years, then returned to Garafraxa where they lived another five years. Then they moved to Sarawak Twp (or Keppel Twp) and later to Berkeley (Holland Twp) where they lived the rest of their lives. They had thirteen children, one daughter died as an infant. Their children were Ruth, Charles, Mary, Anne, Robert, Thomas, Wilson, William Sutton, John Wesley, Margaret, Japeth, and Stephan. Robert and Catherine are buried in the Berkeley area of Grey County, ON but exact location is not known at the present time.

There are different ways of spelling Demmans which have been used by some family members such as:
