Complications Resulting From Fall Are Fatal to Locan Man
Herman Meyer, Sr., 73, died yesterday afternoon at 3:40 o'clock at his home on Route 5 of complications resulting from a fall Saturday noon, Dec. 17. He had been an invalid for the past five years. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt. The Rev. John Neises will officiate at the rites and burial will be made in the parish cemetery. Mr. Meyer, a blacksmith, was born in St. Nazianz May 9, 1865. After leaving St. Nazianz he resided in Manitowoc County, but for the past 26 years he had made his home on Route 5. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Michael's Church. He was married October 13, 1891, to Margaretha Stein, who preceded him in death about 5 years ago. Surviving are three sons, Herman A. Meyer, route 5; Othmar Meyer, route 3; and Elmer Meyer, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Elvira) Scheller, Preentice, and Mrs. Tony (Lorraine Schneider, route 5; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Joe Geigel, Manitowoc; and a half brother, Conrad Milhaupt, Appleton. The body will lie in state at the Rembs Funeral Home until Saturday afternoon, when it will be brought to the Meyer home on Route 5."
Note that he was the son of Heinrich Meier and Magdalena Muelhaupt alia Muehlhaupt, who were married in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, shortly after the death of her first husband. Magdalena would divorce Heinrich Meier, and gave her surname to her son, whose actual birth record was Meier.
