He served in the Navy and had a great love of family and the outdoors, spending much of his time fishing and camping in the Sierra mountains. He married Dorothy Craig in Modesto and had four children together, Everett, Norma, Clifford, and Wayne. Norman and Dorothy later divorced. He remarried to Genie Bailey in the 1970s and lived in Sacramento, Ca.
