JACKSON HERALD--Wed. Oct. 2, 1912:
John Shear, one of the aged and respected farmers residing just over
the line in Scioto County and well known here, died Monday morning and
was buried at St. John's Tuesday. He had been ill but a few days and his
death came as a shock to his friends. He was aged about 80 years and
leaves a family of 3 sons and 2 daughters.
On the 1880 census, John Shear's mother and father's birth place is
listed as Hesse Dormstait.
His death certificate states his cause of death as "gastritus" and lists
the informant as Charles Pfleger.
