Alma O. Bailey, 76, of New Albany Indiana passed away, Wednesday August 1, 2018 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She and her twin sister Thelma were born on September 9, 1941 to the late Leroy and Bonnie Overton. At the time of her death she was a member of the Church of the Living God (CWFF) Temple #45, Louisville, Kentucky.
Alma confessed her faith in Christ at an early age, attending Holy Trinity Catholic Church and elementary school. She graduated from New Albany High School class of 1959 at which time she was awarded a certificate for four years of perfect attendance.
After high school Alma attended Ivy Tech Community College from which she earned an Associate Arts degree as a medical assistant. She then became a medical assistant in Dr. Mohsen Ehsan's office.
Alma was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, loving wife and a sincere friend. She possessed a remarkable strength and character, meeting adversity with grace and perseverance few could match. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was very thrifty yet, generous beyond measure. As an avid reader she enjoyed working crossword puzzles and of course reading her Bible. Alma enjoyed fishing, traveling with James and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Robert E. Waters Jr.; her sisters Charlotte Ann Watkins and Thelma Dixon and brothers Phillip Leroy and Nicholas Maurice Overton.
Survivors include her husband James H. Bailey Sr.; son Rodney L. Waters; granddaughter Maria Faith Waters Jackson (Micah) of Newman, Georgia. Nieces Toni Lyon and Timi Denise Overton of Louisville, KY. Nephews Pete Dixon and Christopher Taylor. Step-sons James H. Jr. and Robert R. Bailey of Louisville and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Monday at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes (1119 E. Market St. New Albany, IN).
Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Market Street Chapel with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
