The death of Mrs. Gustave Woelfel of Chilton Town which occurred at St. Agnes hospital, Fond du Lac, at 2:30 Monday afternoon, came as a shock to members of her family, relatives and friends in this community. Mrs. Woelfel had been suffering from goiter trouble for many years and on Monday morning underwent an operation at St. Agnes hospital but failed to survive the ordeal. The body was brought back to the home in Chilton town of Tuesday were it lay in state until Thursday morning, when funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church in this city, Rev. Fr. Francis C. Heimann a cousin of the deceased officiating with interment in St. Mary’s cemetery. The Christian Mothers society of which the deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body.

Mrs. Gustav Woelfel, nee Elizabeth Bushmann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bushmann was born at School Hill, Manitowoc County on Dec. 30th, 1875, spending her girlhood in that community. On Oct. 13th 1898 she was united in marriage to Mr. Gustav Woelfel and Holy Trinity church at School Hill and they settled on a farm near the Lime Kilns in Charlestown where they lived for one year. They then moved onto a farm in the town of Rantoul where they lived until 1906, when they moved to the farm in Chilton town upon which she resided up to the time of her death.

Ten children were born to this union, all of whom are living, namely; Sister Augusta (Rose) of St. Anthony’s hospital, St. Louis, Mo., Raymond, Adalia, Henry, Monica, Leonard, Leona, Marie, Mathilda, and Aurelia, all at home. Besides her husband and children she is survived by seven brothers, John Bushmann of Laguna Beach, Calif., Henry and Joseph Bushmann of Marshfield, Frank Bushmann of School Hill, Andrew Bushmann of Manitowoc, Anton Bushmann of Denver, Colo., and Peter Bushmann of Dorchester, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. John Woelfel of Chilton town and Mrs. Jos. Christel of St. Nazianz.

Mrs. Woelfel was a kind and loving wife and mother and left nothing undone for the comfort of her husband and children. She was a devout member of St. Mary’s church and a member of the Christian Mothers society of that congregation. Her relatives and friends are deeply grieved over her untimely passing and the home over which she presided with loving care is desolate.
