Marion--Gerald L. Dawes, 67, Marion, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
He was born on January 23, 1921, in Urbana to Everett Dawes and Edna (Cook) Cooper. His mother survives in Marion. He married Ruth Allen on October 18, 1943, in Wabash. She survives.
A 1939 graduate of Urbana High School, Mr. Dawes also was a World War II Army veteran. He had lived in Marion since 1954, coming from Wabash. He retired from Carey Industries, Marion, after 14 years service. He also had worked for the Kroger Milk Company and the Foremost Milk Company for 18 years. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Marion.
Also surviving are one son, Craig Allen Dawes, Marion; one daughter, Diane E. Burns, Indianapolis; five sisters, Bernadine Ayres and Donna Wilder, both of Marion, Betty Brubaker, Van Buren, Pat McAllister, Kokomo, and Peggy Sims, Bonita Springs, Florida, and two grandchildren; his step-mother, Beulah Dawes, 806 N. Miami Street. One brother and one sister are deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen-Miner Funeral Home. The Rev. Jude Peterson and the Rev. Ned Gillum will officiate. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
