Purnell L. "Pernie" Houston died on Friday, Dec. 24, 1999. He was 83.
Mr. Houston was born on April 7, 1916, in Riverton, Kan. He was a resident of Placerville.
Mr. Houston served his country as a machine gunner in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was known as a social, outgoing man, who was somewhat of a prankster and tease. A devoted family man, he enjoyed being close to his daughters and spending time on family outings. His hobbies included fishing and traveling in his RV.
Mr. Houston was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, who died in October.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Selmyhr of Placerville and Gwendolyn Douglass of Grizzly Flat.
A private memorial service will be held. Interment will be at Green Valley Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Green Valley Mortuary.
