Obituary: "Former Carsonville Lady Dies at Marlette - Marlette, Nov. 12 - Funeral Services were held on Saturday Nov. 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Heeney funeral parlor for Mrs. Jas. H. Shook, of Marlette. Rev. Charles Bragg, pastor, officiating. Zina Grant was born Aug. 24, 1865 at Carsonville. She was united in marriage to Jas. H. Shook, of Au Stable, in 1884, at the latter place where they lived until the disastrous fire of 1911 destroyed the town. They then retired to their farm near Carsonville, where they lived about 12 years, then making their home in Marlette until her death. Final burial was at the family lot in Washington Cemetery at Carsonville. Survivors are her husband, Jas. R. Shook, and three sons, Harold E. of San Francisco, Glen C., of Marlette, and Grant R., of Saginaw; one sister, Myra G. Schlappi, of Battle Creek, and two brother, Wm. J. Grant of Oscoda, and George Grant of Croswell. She was a very ardent member of the Methodist Episcopal church since her early childhood having conducted Sunday school classes of girls of various ages in each community, also a member of the Home Missionary Society."
