BEST, Merlene, 71 of Dade City, died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at her residence. Merlene was born in Marianna, Fla. to Pharoah and Jessie Long and moved to Dade City in 1954. She was employed with the Division of Driver's License for many years. Merlene was preceded in death by 2 sisters Beatrice Bryant and Dorothy Hart, and 2 brothers Bill Long and James Long. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Heber of Dade City, sons Jamey and Allen, both of Dade City, and 2 daughters Teresa (Joe) Johnson, of Dade City, and Melissa (Timothy) Youmans of Zephyrhills; 3 sisters, Evelyn Crooms of Panama City, Ercell Blankenship of Dade City, Audrey Kryzak of Clearwater, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Merlene's family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 Hwy 301, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan.20, the entombment will take place at Chapel Hill Gardens Mausoleum.
