Second son of Zephaniah and Mary Caswell. Solomon was one of Troy's first settlers.

Solomon and his brother Eli joined the New York State Militia during the War of 1812 and were stationed near Sackets Harbor.

The Caswell home used to sit at 3150 N. Adams Rd. Now it is part of the Troy Museum and Historical Village.
