Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Saturday, August 15, 1964:
  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday for Fred G. Schaefer, 86, from the Weber Funeral Home with interment in Valley View Garden of Memory. Mr. Schaefer died at 7:45 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, where he had been a patient seven weeks. Prior to moving to the Hitz Memorial Home at Alhambra, he and his wife, the former Mary Brave, resided at 422 Plum St.
  Mr. Schaefer retired 19 years ago from farming.
  Surviving in addition to his wife, whom he married Oct. 24, 1906 at Eden Evangelical and Reformed Church, are three daughters, Mrs. Erwin (Irma) Langendorf and Mrs. Leroy (Ardell) Lange, both of this city, and Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Schlemer of Pocahontas; a brother and sister, Edward Schaefer and Miss Marie Schaefer of Edwardsville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Middendorf Schaefer; five brothers and one sister. Mr. Schaefer was born Feb. 17, 1878 in Edwardsville.
  Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Robert O. Laaser, pastor of Eden United Church of Christ, will officiate at the funeral.
  Pallbearers will be Gerald Langendorf, Ralph Lange, Ronald Schlemer, Kenneth Schlemer, Terry Langendorf and Vernon Brave.
