James, "A Proud Confederate Soldier" served as a Pvt. Co F 64th GA Inf C.S.A. James C, Jr. was the son of James C. Peddy, Sr and Frances Jane Garland Peddy. James married Nancy Ann Ferrer 14 Dec 1846 in Stewart County, Georgia. Their children were: Andrew Jackson Peddy, Martha J. Peddy, Narcissus Elizabeth "Lizzie" Peddy Fears, William Henry "Buck" Peddy, George Washington Peddy, James Peddy, and John Thomas Peddy. On July 17, 1863 James Peddy, Chattahoochee County, GA, enlisted at Columbus, GA, Private Co J, 64th Regiment, Georgia Infantry. James was in the Battle of Olustee at Ocean Pond, FL Feb 1864. James is mentioned several times, (also his brother-in-law, Jackson Harrison) in the Letters from Edmond Hardy Jones that is posted on the Battle of Olustee Website. James was in the battles around Petersburg & Richmond, VA in 1864, where his brother-in-law, Jackson Harrison was killed. In Oct 1864, James deserted the Confederate cause and signed an Oath of Allegiance, so that he would be returned home rather than be sent to a Yankee Prison. The Union Army transported him from VA to Washington DC, to Cincinnati, OH to Nashville, TN and from there James had to make his way to Chattahoochee County, GA. James's youngest child, Thomas was born 1866 in GA and then James moved to Henderson County, TN (now Chester Co). James is in TN records from 1867 to 1878.
