Viola M. Bartoo, 84, of State College, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Foxdale Village. Born on January 21, 1921 in Edinboro, she was the daughter of the late Perry Wilson and Myrtle Juanita Schruers Mead. On October 5, 1943, she married James B. Bartoo, who preceded her in death on June 27, 1993. She was a graduate of Edinboro State Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher in Montclair, PA. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Merry Circle. She volunteered at Schlow Library for over 25 years and at Centre Community Hospital Medical Library. She was also a driver for Meals-on-Wheels, a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, a Girl Scout Leader and Cookie mother, and was a Host for the International Hospitality Program at Penn State. She was a dedicated wife and mother and an avid reader and gardener. She is survived by three daughters, Janice Becker and her husband Richard of State College, Jill Lillie and her husband Robert of State College, and Brenda Ruby of Fort Pierre, SD: two sons, Kim Bartoo of Boalsburg and Scott Bartoo of State College; and five grandchildren, Sara Becker, Mitchell Lillie, Rob Lillie, Travis Ruby and Fletcher Ruby. Visitation will be Sunday, February 13 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister St., State College. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 PM with the Reverend Joseph Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Schlow Memorial Library, 118 S. Fraser Street, State College, PA 16801 or to James and Viola Bartoo Graduate Fellowship at Penn State, 17 Old Main, University Park, PA 16802.
