Poet. Lyricist. He was one of America's best known poets during his life. His poem "April Rain" inspired the Al Jolson song "April Showers." Before the Gorrell/Carmichael classic "Georgia On My Mind" became the state song in 1979, Loveman's song "Georgia" (with music by L.B. Wylie) was the official song of the state. In 1981, the biography "It's Raining Violets: The Life and Poetry of Robert Loveman" was published.
