Holding a sheep's fleece. Mum bought the fleeces whole just after the sheep were shorn, usually cleaning them herself (a wet fleece can weigh over a hundred pounds!), then carded and spun the wool into yarn for sweaters, socks etc. She also dyed the wool herself using natural dyes such as tea, onion skins and woad. She did the entire process herself from raw material to finished product.
