Aged Man, Who Stabbed Self, Dies of Pneumonia

Pneumonia, which developed from an undernourished condition and an alleged self-inflicted stab wound in the neck, caused the death of Allen Chandler, 72-year-old Salt Creek township resident, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Nora Medaris, as Hensonburg.

Chandler was taken on October 26 to the Bloomington hospital by Trustee John White of Salt Creek township, after he had been found in the shack where he lived alone, suffering from a knife wound in his neck, said to have been inflicted in a suicide attempt. He showed improvement at the hospital and was taken after a few days to the home of Mrs. Medaris, a practical nurse, for care. The physician in charge of the case held little hope for the aged man's recovery, as his general condition was bad, the result of undernourishment.

Chandler lived alone for a number of years, occupying a small shack. He provided for himself as long as his health permitted by cutting wood and working as a laborer.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Pryor, of Old Unionville, and Mrs. Hattie Cummings, of this city; two brothers, Samuel Chandler, of Knight Ridge, and Mose Chandler, of Bedford, and a half-brother, Isaac Chandler, of Scottsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Knight Ridge
church, in charge of the Rev. D. H. Wilcoxen. Burial will be in the Chandler cemetery. The body will remain at the Allen funeral home until time for the services.

This Cemetery was found along a dirt road that led down and ended at a Reservoir put in years ago. About a half mile before you came to the Reservoir we seen a sign for Chandler Cemetery. The path led back into a thick forrest coverd foilage. We found the cemetery about a 4th mile back.
