A native of Florence, SC; son of the late David Ewing Lawson (1880–1966) and Bessie Davis Lawson (1885–1956); husband of Margaret Frances Furse Lawson (1928–2005).
Retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. and also employed with Nabisco, was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Other survivors include his sons, John Thomas Lawson and William James Lawson Jr.; and sisters, Margaret Lawson Ziegler (1914-2013) and Jessie Egerton Lawson Grimsley (1923–2010).
Also predeceased by an Infant Son Lawson (1948–1948); sister, Elizabeth Lawson Neilan (1916–2002); and brother, David E Lawson (1918–1945).
Graveside services were held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Thomas P. Groome III.
