"Arthur L Scouten, 83, of Spartansburg, RD 3, died unexpectedly at his home Sunday. He was born Jan 26, 1895, in Aurora (sic) [Arroyo], Elk County, a son of Emmett and Nellie Sherlock Scouten. He was an auctioneer in the Spartansburg area for over 70 years. He was a member of the Spartansburg Grange. Mr Scouten is survived by one daughter, Mrs Stanley (Ruth) Lewin of Sanborn, NY; two sons, Guy and Lawrence of Spartansburg; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Merle (Jennie) Smith of Guys Mills and Mrs Robert (Edith) Davis of Corry; two brothers, Elbert and Paul of Spartansburg. His wife, Hazel; a son, Neil; and a brother, Clair, died previously. Friends may call at the H Richard Hays Funeral Home of Spartansburg...and attend the funeral service there at 2 pm Thursday with Rev Norwood B Futrell, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Spartansburg, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg."
