"Mrs Hazel Scouten, 74, of Spartansburg, RD 2, died Wednesday afternoon in Corry Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was born Nov 27, 1897, in Sparta Township, the daughter of the late Guy and Hettie Darrow Blakeslee. On Feb 22, 1919, she married Arthur Scouten in Mayville, NY. She was a member of the Sparta Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and had clerked at sales for many years with her husband who is an auctioneer. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Guy and Laurence Scouten, both of Spartansburg; one daughter, Mrs Stanley (Ruth) Lewin on Sanborn, NY; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Milton Blakeslee, Spartansburg, RD 1; one sister, Mrs Paul (Helen) Scouten of Spartansburg. She was preceded in death by one son, Neil, and one brother, Paul Blakeslee. Friends may call at the H Richard Hays Funeral Home, Spartansburg...and may attend the funeral service there Sunday at 2 pm with Rev Larry Mattox, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Spartansburg, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg."
