She was known by her middle name, Vilate. Born in Lehi, Utah in 1856, she was the youngest of 12 children of Mormon pioneers Ephraim & Polly Derby Mecham. She grew up in Wallsburg, Utah and lived there until 1905, when her husband moved their family to the Provo Bench then to Bingham Canyon, Utah. After retirement they moved down to the valley.

Obituary, MURRAY EAGLE (newspaper), November 27, 1941:
VILATE MECHAM GLENN
"Funeral services for Mrs. Vilate Mecham Glenn, 84, widow of Robert W. Glenn and lifelong resident of Utah, will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Millcreek L.D.S. chapel, 590 East 39th South street, by Bishop Cyrus Walters of Valley Center ward. Burial will be in the Elysian burial gardens.
"Friends may call at the Glenn residence, 241 West 39th South, Friday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
"Mrs. Glenn died at her home Tuesday after a short illness.
"She was born December 26, 1856, in Lehi, a daughter of Ephraim and Polly Derby Mecham. She was a member of Valley Center ward.
"Surviving are four daughters and a son, Mrs. Mary Stoker of Sandy; Mrs. Alice G. Holmes of Los Angeles; Mrs. Emma Thomas of Bingham; Mrs. Nora Smith, Centerville; Hugh G. Glenn, Murray; 18 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren."
