Ezra Comfort was born February 9, 1839, in Niagara Co., New York, and passed to the higher life Monday April 28th, at Asbury Hospital, Salina, Kansas, having served in the physical body 85 years, two months and 19 days. When but one year old his parents moved to Knox Co., Ohio, where he grew to manhood. On Sept. 11, 1861 he was united in marriage to Aurilla C. Johnson at Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Within a few weeks thereafter they came to the state of Iowa, locating at Springdale, residing there nearly five years. They moved to Johnson Co., Iowa, locating on a farm. When again, February, 1874, they moved to Kansas, locating on a farm in the vicinity known as Pleasant Valley, where they resided until 1902, at which time his wife, on August 27th, departed this life, preceding him 22 years. Since that time he has divided his residence among his several children, all being located in this county. To this union were born eight children, three girls and five boys, three boys having passed on to higher labors.

Those living are: Mrs. Lettie Richardson, Mrs. Bertha Brown, Mrs. Cora Brown, Henry Sheridan Comfort and Carlton Comfort. Father Comfort always retained an open mind to all things pertaining to life's welfare. His was of a pioneer character, ever ready to blaze a trail for what he believed to be for the greatest good to all concerned. About 50 years ago he became an ardent believer in Spiritualism and up to the time of his transition never wavered in his convictions.
