He was born & baptized 18 Jan., 1887 as Joseph-Pierre-Mathias St-Laurent, at
in St-Calixte-de-Plessisville, Megantic Co, Quebec, son of Joseph Louis St-Laurent, mecanicien [mechanic], and Marie Cloutier (provided by Michelle Robillard).

He enlisted in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force, Aug. 20, 1917.

MATHIAS ST. LAURENT died this morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Delmina Levesque, 151 Cabot street, aged 48 years old. He was a World War veteran, serving in the Canadian Forces. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Victoria (Ritchotte) St. Laurent; a daughter Mrs. Beatrice Gallant, of Biddeford, Me; two grandsons Clayton Gallant Jr. and Barry D Gallant; three sisters, Mrs. Delmina Levesque, and Mrs. Mary Goulet, both of this city and Mrs. Elizabeth Maheu of Pennicook, N.H., and two brothers, Andre St. Laurent of Laconia, N.H. and Joseph St. Laurent of Montreal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of the World War.

FUNERAL
MATHIAS ST. LAURENT
The military funeral of Mathias St. Laurent took place this morning from the home of his sister, Mrs. Delima Levesque, 151 Cabot street and was largely attended by relatives and friends. At St. Jean Baptiste church at 9 o'clock a solemn high funeral mass was celebrated by Rev. Esdras Gariepy, O.M.I., assisted by Rev. Edouard Ducharme, O.M.I., as deacon and by Rev. Alphonse Breault, O.M.I., as sub-deacon. The church choir, under the direction of Mr. Rodolphe M. Pepin, the organist, sang Pietro Yon's funeral mass. The soloists were : Mrs. Maria Jacques, Miss Cecile Vincent and Messr Elzear Cote and Eugene Corbett. After the libera, the choir sang "Jean Salvator March". The organist played "The Star Spangled Banner" which was followed by "Taps" sounded by Buglor Alfred Harnois. The delegation of Disabled American Veterans of the World War were : Commander Martin J. Ready, S.V.C. Richard Perry, John J. Connors, Joseph A. Plouffe, Alexander McNeil, George Caron. The bearers of the flagdraped casket, all members of the French-American War Veterans association, were : Alderic Sylvestre, Valmor Navard, Rosario Dubois, George Caron, Leo Carpentier, Arthur Lajoie. There were numerous flowers. At the grave, Rev. Fr. Edouard Ducharme, O.M.I., read the committal prayers. Burial was in the Soldiers lot in the St. Joseph's cemetery. The firing squad composed of the above members of the French-American War Veterans association, fired three rounds.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Funeral Director M. R. Laurin.
