Loretta M. (Winding) Mitchell was my maternal grandmother. She was married to Louis Mitchell (shortened from Mucheroni). They had 5 children; William A. Mitchell, married to Anne; John L., married to Ruth; Loretta Nelsina (Mitchell) (Waskevich) Groleau, wife of Albin D. Waskevich and later, Alphonse J. Groleau; Marie M. (Mitchell) Lavine, wife of Robert Lavine; and, George Mitchell, who died of spinal meningitis as a baby. She also left one grandson, my brother Skipper (Albin Louis Waskevich), who was the apple of her eye. She was also fortunate enough to meet her first granddaughter, my sister, Lee (Loretta Marie Waskevich) who was 3 months old upon her death. She also left one sister, Emma, and a brother, George, that I know of. I'm not sure of any of their details or if they had other siblings.
I never met my grandmother because she died before I was born. I've heard many wonderful stories from my mom though, and know she was a wonderful, loving, caring, generous woman who always kept her door open to anyone.
She took in different children if they were having trouble at home and treated them as her own.
She always had a big pot of spaghetti and meatballs on the stove on Sundays for anyone who decided to stop by.
I remember a school friend of my mom's who told me she used to love to go to their house because my grandmother would make her the best pepper and egg sandwich she ever had. She sounds wonderful!
Gramma left this world much too young, when she was only 49. She died of pancreatic cancer. I look forward to the day I can meet her.

Love Always,
Susan
