Matt J. Kocian, Sr., 81, former Kellnersville resident, died Saturday night at Park Lawn Home, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient for six months. Funeral services will be 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville and 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at Greenstreet.

Mr. Kocian was born April 5, 1881 in the Town of Cooperstown, son of the late Matt and Margaret Decker Kocian. September 10, 1906, he married Catherine Tisler and the couple operated a farm in the Town of Cooperstown. His wife preceded him in death in 1927. In 1948 he married Mrs. Anna Zeman. She preceded him in death on April, 1957.

Mr. Kocian was employed for about 15 years with Muth Knechtel Construction Co. being engaged with teams of horses doing excavating and landscaping. During the winter months he furnished many teams in logging operates in northern Wisconsin woods. He was treasurer of the Town of Cooperstown for many years.

Survivors include six sons, Joseph of Des Moines, Ia., Clarence of Rt. 2, Cato, Victor, Edward and Matt of Francis Creek and George of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, two daughters, Mrs. Quirin Wachtal of Francis Creek, and Mrs. Molly Cherney of Rt. 4, Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Anna DeYoung of Rt. 2, Cato and Mrs. Michael Reedy of Sacrament, Calif.; five step-daughters, Mrs. Libbie Erbstoesser of Sheboygan, Mrs. Herbert Jierscheck of Milwaukee, Mrs. Joseph Stradel of Kellnersville, Mrs. John Nelson of Sheboygan and Mrs. Arnold Mirkes of Green Bay; three step-sons, Miles Zeman of Sheboygan, Daniel Zeman of Lake Geneva and Charles Zeman whose address is unknown; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Five brothers also preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this Monday evening.
