Maria, wife of Michael Hudak, and sister Susanna Dusik came from the village Strba in Slovakia (at that time it was Austria-Hungary)? Maria's husband Michal Hudac was born in Batizovce, a village about 10 km from Strba). His mother Maria later married (7.1.1896) Michal Smatlak (also from Batizovce) and maybe in 1908 they moved to the village Velky Slavkov (10 km from Batizovce, 20km from Strba.

Mrs. Mary (Dusik) Hudach, 40, of 1289 Maryland Avenue died at 8:50 o’clock last evening (Thursday, March 18, 1937) in Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted March 10 and underwent a major operation the following day. Her condition had been serious since

Mrs. Hudach was the daughter of Martin Dusik and Suzanna Garaj. She was born May 17, 1896, in Strba, Slovenska republika. She came to this country in 1922. Surviving are her husband, Michael Hudach, who she married on June 15, 1913, in Europe, her father, Martin Dusik, residing in Europe; six children, Michael, Mary, Paul, Anna, John and Margaret Hudach, all at home; a sister, Suzanna (Mrs. Michael Boratko), 1256 Maryland Avenue, Johnstown; a brother, Paul Dusik (married to former Zuzana Kordovanova), Europe, and a half-sister, Anna Dusikova (Mrs. Pavel Sulek), also residing in Europe.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Monday afternoon (March 21, 1937) at the Hudach home. The body will be removed to St. John’s Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church for additional rites at 2 PM. Rev. Andrew Rolik, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, under the direction of Morticians Martin Baretincic and Son.

Preceding her in death were infant siblings Maria and Jan and her step Mothers Suzanna Skokan-Dusik and Mária Kováè-Dusik.

TRIP TO THE USA: Mary (Mariya)Dusik-Hudak, son Michael (age 9), and daughter Mary (age 6) left Hamburg, Germany, on August 10, and arrived in the US on August 22, 1922. They were passengers on the on the SS Mount Carroll. The ship came from Hamburg, Germany, and their mode of transportation to get from their Village,Velky, Czechoslovakia, is not known. The manifest states that Mother and children could not read or write in any language, but the children were listed as pupils. This appears to be a mistake. Mary (Mariya) was a postmistress in her Village, and her daughter and son could speak several languages and could read and write in Slavish and English. In fact, the children could speak English, German, Slavish and Polish as did other members of the family. Her husband's mother, Marie Smatek, was listed as the closest relative in their home village. On the Manifest the names are Marie Hudac, age 26, Michael 9, Marie 6.
