Mrs. Jimmie Lee Cork Tinney, 91 passed away Wednesday February 27, 2013. She was born December 8, 1920 in Flattop, Alabama to the late John Marvin Cork and Susie Ashley Cork. Mrs. Tinney and family were members of Central Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church activities. Mrs. Tinney attended Belhaven College for Religion and Bible Classes. In August 1960 she was recognized by the Board of Women's Work, Presbyterian Church USA, with an Honorary Life Membership by the Women of the Church, Synod of Mississippi. Mr. and Mrs. Tinney lived on Eagle Lake (north of Vicksburg, MS) for many years before moving to Raymond, MS. She became an active member of Raymond Presbyterian Church where she served as President of the Women of the Church for many years. Mrs. Tinney worked as dietician for the Mississippi Baptist High School and later for Hinds County Public Schools at Byram High School in Byram, MS. She worked many summers at French Camp Academy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Vernon Tinney, Sr. She is survived by her sons; Alton V. Tinney Jr. and wife Marion of Vass, North Carolina; J. Lee Tinney and wife Peggy of Lexington, South Carolina. Mrs. Tinney is survived by five grand grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Jimmie Lee was known for her compassion for others and was quick help those in true need. She loved her Lord, church, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday March 2, 2013 from the Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and interment will follow the service in the Raymond Cemetery. Pastor Roger Collins will be officiating.
